          Program Requirements

          Students must successfully complete the following 30 credits of course work.

          • BUS-100 Financial Accounting Fundamentals
          • BUS-132 Mathematics of Finance
          • BUS-150 Principles of Management
          • BUS-152 Entrepreneurship & Small Business Management
          • BUS-162 Principles of Marketing
          • BUS-170 Computer Applications for Business
          • ECO-110 Principles of Microeconomics
          • ECO-111 Principles of Macroeconomics
          • ENG-160 Effective Organizational Writing
          • ENG-115 Essay Writing and Critical Analysis or ENG-116 Essay Writing and Indigenous Perspectives or ENG-117 Academic Writing

          Completion Requirements

          • Effective 2021 FALL: A minimum GPA of 2.00 is required.

          Admission Requirements

          1. C+ in one of Provincial English 12, English Studies 12, English First Peoples 12, NIC ENG-060, ENG-096, or ENG-098; or C+ in ESL-092 and ESL-095; or English assessment; and
          2. C+ in Foundations of Math 11 or NIC MAT-055; or C in one of Principles of Math 11, Pre-Calculus 11, Applications of Math 12, or NIC MAT-053; or Math assessment;
          3. Or, permission of the department.

          International Language Requirements

          If you are applying as an international student, you must meet NIC international admission requirements.

          Transfer Credit & Credit For Prior Learning

          The NIC business administration program accepts course transfer credit from a wide range of post secondary institutions and professional organizations. Detailed course transfer information for BC institutions may be found by accessing the BC Transfer Guide. Students possessing other applicable prior learning may request prerequisite waivers for selected courses.

          To Be Successful

          • Basic computer skills in word processing and file management are required.
          • You should have access to a computer and a high speed internet connection.
          • Consult with a business administration instructor if you are unsure of your level of math preparedness for any of the business courses

          Program Highlights

          Through either an online or classroom-based curriculum, you will develop a fundamental knowledge of administrative principles, financial accounting, economics, and organizational writing. Explore marketing for public, private and not-for-profit sectors, with particular emphasis placed on assessing dynamic marketing environments and developing a marketing strategy. Learn software widely used in business administration and learn how to use presentation software in a supportive, hands-on environment.

          Career Opportunities

          The Business Administration certificate program opens the door to a wide range of entry level positions. Career positions may include, but would not be limited to, office employee, banking and financial assistant or accounting assistant.

          The Online Experience

          The online Business Administration certificate is an interactive, mixed-media program designed specifically for online users and NIC's Blackboard online learning environment. It offers the same course curriculum as our traditional business certificate program, with the same quality and standards expected of North Island College, yet gives you the flexibility to learn at the time and in the place that's best for you.

          Costs indicated are estimates for a 100% course load per year, unless otherwise noted. Additional fees may also include necessary equipment, supplies, NIC appointed uniforms, or field trips not included in these estimates.
